City of Akrontiri

<The civilian advisor that you will answer to on this base is the Chief Scientific Advisor, Dr. Cara Coyle,> Giuseppe explained as they walked through the corridors of the marvelous city. As they walked, the young Italian's eyes latched onto every inch of the city-ship. The colors, the lights, the screens, even the walls and the floors all fascinated him. And to think that all of this existed thousands of years before the Romans even laid the first stone in his mother country. Inconcebible!
<Have you heard anything I've said, Matteo?> Snapping back to reality, Teo focused back on his mentor.
"Si, si, Dr. Cara Coyle, Chief Scientific Advisor, understood" he replied, soon looking past Giuseppe into a lab where some item with a forcefield shot a lab tech across the room. His eyes grew wide, partly with wonder and partly with excitement. Giuseppe rolled his eyes.
"At least your English sounds better than it did," the older man said, smirking in an almost fatherly manner. Teo rolled his eyes. "It is not as though I had a choice, with the entire program being run by the American military." His tone did not indicate any resentment towards the program or who ran it. It was still clear that he was distracted by his surroundings.
"Not everyone on the expedition is American. Dr. Coyle is British and there are others from other countries. That is why you are here. The International Oversight Agency is meant to represent all of the nations involved in the expedition to make sure that everything in the program runs smoothly for both civilian and military personnel....and you're not listening again." Sure enough, Teo was caught looking out one of the multi-colored windows that looked down onto the lower levels. Shortly after moving past that window, they turned into a large laboratory there was no one else there. "I need to go get ready for departure on the battlecruiser. Dr. Coyle will be here soon. Do you think you can wait here by yourself without getting into trouble...for once?"
"Si, si, si. No problem...I'll just, uh...wait here," he said, looking around at the different screens and contraptions in the room. "Don't touch anything," Giuseppe said, as he walked away. Teo saluted sarcastically then turned right back around to face the screen, murmuring, "Non toccare niete...non toccare..."
...but he couldn't resist. It wasn't even a screen really! It was just there...in the air. It moved when his fingers touched it! Meraviglioso!! He could barely contain his excitement as he tried to understand what was on the screen. Some made sense or was pretty straightforward. Some was in English...but most of it consisted of strange scribbly characters from a time long ago. They resembled some of the writings on the architecture in Italy, though...very peculiar.
The door activated and opened.
