1st Battalion 13th Marines
In the last 1990's, the United States Marines Corp started to find itself struggling to 'hide' or explain the current whereabouts of USMC personnel who had been assigned to the Stargate Program. People were starting to ask question, and as a response, the 1st Battalion 13th Marines was born. Taking a page from the USAF, who had reactivated the 6th Air Force as a cover story for their F-302 program, the inactive 1st Battalion of the 13th Marine Regiment was opened up, and used to provide a cover story for currently deployed USMC SGC personnel.
The 1/13, currently commander by Colonel Wells, a veteran of the Stargate program, answers directly to the Commandant of the Marine Corps, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the Department of Homeworld Security. The objective is to provide Marine assistance and support in an ongoing fashion to all current and future SGC ventures, as well as carry out R&D and testing on new technologies.
Just like other Marine Battalions, the 1/13 consists of three rifle companies (Alpha, Brave, Charlie), one weapons company, and one Headquarters and Service Company. Alpha and Bravo Company is used solely as a cover story for SGC assigned Marines, while Charlie Company is a fully staffed and deployable Company. The weapons company handles R&D and testing for alien technologies, specifically those which have military application, while the H&S Company provides administration for all SGC and off-world Marines.
Charlie Company
Commanding Officer: Major Bryce Bennett
Unlike Alpha and Bravo company, who simply act as a cover story for Marines assigned to the SGC or it's off-world outposts, Charlie Company is in fact a fully function and operationally deployable entity. The company first saw action at the siege of Atlantis, where they successfully fended off the Wraith attack, and have since been in training, honing in their combat skills. The 1/13 will be called upon by the Delta Site in order to assist with their planned assault on the planet of Bactra.
Organization
Under the command of their CO, a company of 176 Marines can break down into Platoons, Squads or Fire Team depending on the situation. Below is an explanation of each operational unit the Company can break down into:
* Fire Team - 4 Marines
Team Leader (M16 w/ M203): also works as the grenadier; E-4 or E-5
Rifleman (M16): acts as a scout for the fire team
Automatic Rifleman (M249 SAW): also serves as second in command for the fire team
Assistant Automatic Rifleman (M16): carries extra ammunition
* Squad - 13 Marines
Squad Leader; E-5 or E-6
3 x Fire Teams
* Rifle Platoon - 42 Marines
Platoon Leader; O-3
Platoon Sergeant; E-6 or E-7
Navy Hospital Corpsman; E-5
3 x Squads
* Rifle Company - 176 Marines
Commanding Officer; O-4
Executive Officer; O-3
First Sergeant; E-8
Company Gunnery Sergeant; E-7
Senior Corpsman; E-6
Training NCO; E-6
Military Police Sergeant; E-5
Administrative Clerk; E-5
3 x Rifle Platoons
1 x Weapons Platoon
A weapons platoon differs from a rifle platoon, as instead of being built around an M249 SAW light machine gun, the Fire Teams are built around either a FGM-172 SRAW missile launcher, a 60mm mortar or a M240G medium machine gun. The weapons platoon has a squad (3 fire teams) built around each weapons systems, i.e. the platoon has three SRAW fire teams, three mortar fire teams and three M240G fire teams.
1 Rifle Company = 4 Platoons (3 Rifle & 1 Weapons) = 12 Squads (9 Rifle & 3 Weapons) = 36 Fire Teams (27 Rifle & 9 Weapons)
