Episode Sixteen: Genesis (Part 2)

Previously, on Stargate Armada...

On it's second tour of duty to the home galaxy of the Asgard as part of Task Force Ida, the Icarus battle cruiser encountered a group strange alien vessels, seemingly organic in nature and not matching anything on record. Upon further investigation they discovered the ships to belong to the Nidhogg, and ancient enemy of the Asgard, unheard of in generations. With the Queen's arrival aboard the vessel, the crew were detained and the Icarus fired upon, forcing it to retreat to the Asgard home world of Orilla to seek assistance.

Having successfully rallied the Asgard High Council for support, a combined Human-Asgard strike force lead by the Icarus has just arrived in system to destroy the enemy fleet. On board one of the enemy vessels the crew - now freed from restraint - are working to disable the array blocking their communications and beaming, allowing them to call for help.

And now, the conclusion...

From his crouched position hiding behind an enemy console, Praporshchik Aleksandr Kamarov watched the four Nidhogg guards who had taken up position at the doorway to the room within which the now freed crew were hiding. A room which incidentally housed the transmission array that was blocking the crews beaming and communications systems. An array which now had a sizable quantity of C4 plastic explosive strapped to it, linked to a detonator in Alek's hand.

It was a tense stand-off to say the least.

As the bugs didn't speak and communicated through telepathy, they also had no ears. What this sadly meant for the crew was that they had no way of knowing if an alert had been raised throughout the ship following their escape from the containment sphere. From his position of cover, Kamarov clung highly to his Russian built AK-74U sub-machine gun, a weapon left over from the initial Russian control of the vessel. They had after all build the ship the Americans now controlled; the least they could do was allow Alek to wield a weapon he was familiar with.

The four Nidhogg warriors stood almost 9 feet tall, and from his initial scans of the ships he'd surmised they were silicon-based lifeforms, meaning they'd almost literally be as tough as nails. Their exoskeletons looked like take a fair beating, and concern was growing in the back of Kamarov's mind that their convention Earth weapons mightn't be powerful enough. Instead he hid and waited for a command from an officer, who would determine the crews course of action.

Nolen stayed as still as possible when the four aliens came into the room. He had learned from the last time, he knew their weapons would not do much. They could take one maybe two down but not four. He had to think. There was no escape with out disabling the transmitter and they couldn't do that with the four Nidhogg.

What to do, What to do. Crap I have no Idea he thought while trying to figure something out. It was then he had an idea. He used hand signals to get the others attention. Once he had achieved that he pulled his combat knife out and a grenade out. Then showed what he wanted to do. He moved his hand around the two indicated he wanted both tied together. He then pulled off a boot lace and proceeded to tie the grenade to the knife. Now he needed to get them away from this room and stab all four with the grenades. He smiled talk about impossible.

Bridge

Seated in the command chair, Harrison gripped his arm rests a little too tightly, as the helmsman noticed this. Jonathon smiled slightly and nodded reassuringly at the younger officer. His concern was not as much for the crew aboard the Icarus, for they had a high chance of making it out. His concern was for the crew members trapped aboard one of those ships out there, and whether they were alive or not. Even if they were, there was a chance the ship they were on could be destroyed in the battle ahead.

"60 seconds," a voice from the rear of the bridge called out. "Sound the general alarm," the Lieutenant Colonel ordered. The klaxon sounded in the background, and the lights in critical areas of the ship dimmed while other panels lit up to allow for better combat conditions and optimized efficiency. "Icarus to task force," Harrison called over the radio. "All stations report ready, 302s prepped for launch." The ball was in the Admiral's court now.

From this crouched position behind a console, Aleksandr caught Nolen's eye, and watched with curiosity as he withdrew his knife and tied a live hand grenade to it with his boot lace, before indicating to everyone in the room to do the same. Without hesitation Kamarov quietly laid down his rifle and the detonator for the C4 on the ground, but kept both of them within quick reach. If things went bad he wanted to be able to blow the transmitter and get into the resulting fire fight as quickly as possible.

From his belt he withdrew the American issued combat knife - an 'M9 bayonet' if he wasn't mistaken - as well as a fragmentation grenade. The tied the two together with a length of electrical cord he produced from his backpack, and gently removed the pin from the grenade. As long as he was holding down the lever switch the grenade was safe, but he still wasn't a hand of holding onto live ordinance for any serious amount of him. Looking back to the Squadron Leader and giving a slight nod he signaled he was ready and waiting.

At the door way, the four Nidhogg guards continued their survey of the room.

The Squadron leader motioned to his team what he wanted to do. Captain Cromin figured that there is no way Nolen could do it all by himself so he motioned back to the Squadron leader. "we take one each, you have a volunteer here. Give the Go ahead and we will go in."
Captain Cromin grabbed his combat knife and attached a grenade to it with tape. He looked over to Nolen waiting for a go ahead.

OOC: How do the away team know what time is it? Did they rescue watches?

Idun stood by his console, the arrogance of the humans were astounding. How dare they assume that they were leading this taskforce. He assumed that the human's always assume that they were the ones leading people into combat. Idun would not follow orders of the humans; this was not their galaxy or war. The Asgard would deal and fight in the way they had before, they had won the last war and they would win this one without the interference of the humans.

Without Idun's assistance the human's would not even have gotten this taskforce, the Asgard High Council had other important matters than to tend to the lives of a dozen humans. He sighed as the other vessels relayed their responses to the Hákonarmál. The humans would only get answers from his ship; he noticed the tone that Baldr had while speaking about the humans. Most of his people saw them as a annoying insect, that now wanted Asgard territory. Why their vessel couldn’t be assigned to their home galaxy, and their war against the Ori than be sent here.

"Activate the Fighters, Alert half of them to engage the main fleet while the other have will engage the enemy fighters" he stated to the AI mainframe connecting the fighters to the Asgard hub, he wondered what surprises the Nidhogg had install for them.

"Engage the enemy at point blank range, concentrate fire on one section of the ship to overload its defences" he stated to the other Asgard ships, the Icarus would defend its own. Since the Humans believed they were the most powerful vessel.

After escaping from their Nidhogg prison, Jason was in hiding with the others. He could see Nolen and was watching their CO and copied him. He then signalled to Nolen that he was ready and waiting for his command. Jason was really glad to be out of the prison, but they still had a way to go before they were off the ship and home again. The pilot remained still, listening and waiting what to do next. The Nidhogg were strange creatures and frightened Jason, he didn't like them at all. He was happy to help get rid of them.

Patrick had been quiet for the most of the time only because of the mind probe thing left him a little bit drained he looked up when Nolen called out that there was a group of aliens coming their way things weren't not going as planned though Patrick kept quiet and found a good hiding place he wasn't about to give up without a fight but who knew what was about to happen. Patrick looked towards the door as he spotted the four Nidhogg guards he was waiting for the perfect moment to strike though it seemed that they were just standing there for the moment not really walking in. Patrick hopped though that the Nidhogg guards didn't enter the room though right about now anything could happen and these type of things always happened he looked over towards Nolen and wondered when they were going to attack the Nidhogg guards or even if they were going to attack them.

With everyone is position and waiting, it was time to put Syaira's plan into action. Their machine guns and assault rifles had proved all but useless during their last fire fight with Nidhogg guards; all they'd done was piss the bugs off more. It was time to step things up, which was exactly what Nolen was doing. Stabbing grenades with live ordinance into enemy combatants twice your size wasn't Alek's idea of fun, but he had the pleasurable job of following officers orders without question. Such was the like of a WO.

The plan was simple; lay down fire on the enemy, confusing and drawing them into the room. Once inside, attach explosives and hope to god they took out the aliens and not the crew. Not exactly precision warfare, but brute force was the order of the day. When the order to execute was given, Kamarov opened fire.

The moment bullets starting ringing out, the guards outside advanced into the transmitter room. Despite putting down as much fire as they could, the bugs continued to advanced, not even slowly. One by one they were drawn into the room, one by one they entered the kill zone. Those with the grenades attached to the knifes prepared themselves to bring on the unsuspecting bugs...

Nolen waited till they had all finished then with a little help from the rest of the group they decided to 'Let them know we are here'. Picking up the P-90 next to him he fired out the door attracting the aliens in to the room. He waited until all four were in the room. Then he quickly dropped his weapon and grabbed the makeshift sticky bomb. "Now!" he yelled and jumped up and on to one of the aliens. He stabbed the knife into the creature and pulled the pin. He noticed the others doing the same. He then jumped for cover as the grenades blew up.

After the smoke had cleared Nolen looked up, covered in black gooey blood. There were no aliens but bits of them all over the room. Nolen smiled, "Okay Alek, Jason, Bailey. Stay here and disable that transmitter...." The ship rocked with an explosion. The only thing Nolen could think of was that the rescue party had started. ".... We need to hurry. Robert and the rest are with me. We will buy you time to get that done. Alek. After it is finished radio Harrison and get us out of here. Okay men lets move it" Nolen said giving his orders. He picked up his P-90 and raced off from the room. He smiled at himself. Han Solo, was running through his head. All he needed was chewie and a large number of stormtroopers.

OOC: What’s happening? I mean where is the Icarus Personnel? Or do I post for them? And where's that other ship?

0745 - Human Time
Hákonarmál

A bright explosion appeared on his forward holographic view screen, a cruiser had been destroyed by the combined efforts of the Othala and Naranjani. "Task Group Aesir, concentrate fire on the vessel with the highest frequency." He stated knowing that ship would have the main Queen onboard it.

His communications stone lit up and showed the face of Baldr. "Greetings Idun" he said with a tone that was of boredom. "Greetings Baldr, may I assist you?" he asked as he saw the Fafnir pass by his ships hull. "Indeed, I have located the humans. Should I transport them aboard or to your vessel?" he asked.

"Neither, I will alert the humans to their location and let them deal with it. It is after all their problem" Idun replied. Baldr nodded and the screen went dark. Idun activated his communications stone again and contacted Icarus.

"Greetings Admiral, Lieutenant Colonel. I have located the rest of your crew on this vessel. I recommend you transport them up as we are about to destroy that ship" he stated cutting the channel and sending the co-ordinates of the other humans to Icarus' main computer.

He manoeuvred the ship in front of the Icarus as one of the enemy vessels was now targeting it, the Icarus was a pathetic vessel in his mind. It was lightly shielded, armoured and very slow. The human's shouldn't have come out into space yet was his opinion. The weapons fire sizzled against the Hákonarmál's shields but posed no significant damage. He then saw that other enemy ships were trying to trap them using a very old manoeuvre, he contacted Tyr, Aegir and Hermod to hold open the gap. And ordered Sujanha and Kvasir to cover the rear areas with what was left of the 717th Fighter Engagement Squadron. The Hákonarmál would what the human's would call babysit the Icarus.

Jason watched Nolen for his command and when their Commander gave the order, Jason lept out and attacked the nearest Nidhogg. His heart was pounding, and his hands felt sweaty and a little shaky. He held his breath when he did his job, then jumped out of the way when the bombs exploded. After the quick battle and the place had been checked, Nolen ordered him stay with Alek and Bailey.

"Yes, sir!" Jason said, giving him a mock salute and lopsided grin.

Nolen gave his orders and Capt Cromin took point peeking at the hallways. "I suggest we plant whatever else C-4 we have in this Hallway ASAP, and prep all of the grenades we have left, because our bullets will not stop these things as we all know.... and Alek, try and see what you can do about disabling the doors at least to delay their entrances." With that Captain Cromin started to get all of the available explosives left just in case Nolen gave the order.

With the guards dealt with, it was time to move. "Okay Alek, Jason, Bailey. Stay here and disable that transmitter...." Syaria declared, before ordering the rest of the crew into defensive positions. A sly smile worked it's way across Kamarov's face, and he produced the detonator for the C4 he'd planted on the transmitted before they'd been detected by the guards. The rest of the crew, rushing around to take their positions noticed the Russian was standing in the middle of the room doing nothing. Confused looks came across their faces.

"One step ahead of you boss.."

With a metallic click, Alek depressed the switch on the detonator, activating the remote charges on the small packets of C4 plastic explosive he'd attached to the transmitter. With a small but violent exposition following by a smell not too unlike burning flesh or plant material, and transmitter on the roof burst into flame and fell to the ground inactive. The radio piece in his ear burst to life with the sounds of the battle outside. He activated his radio to call for extraction.

"Icarus his is Kamarov, requesting immediate..."

The Russians transmission was cut short by a blinding light - Asgard transport beams - which carried to crew back the Icarus. It was time to get into the battle.

When Nolen gave the ordered Patrick stood up from his position he pulled the trigger of his carbine and blasted the aliens with bullets to allow time for the explosions from the grenades to hit their targets. Patrick smiled as the last of the aliens fell down to the ground dead he was glad that the aliens didn’t get the chance to attack because Patrick hated their little mind probe abilities which wasn’t good for Patrick he didn’t think his mind could last with a few more mind probes. Patrick turned towards Nolen and the team just as alien blood splattered over him. “Remind me to have a shower when I get back to the ship.” Patrick groaned as he whipped a bit of blood from his face well Patrick only guessed it was blood. Patrick turned towards Alek as he pressed the button to detonate the devices to destroy the transmitter; he smiled as he watched the transmitter go up in flames. Patrick was about to speak when he watched as the familiar Asgard beaming device engulf him and the rest of the team it was so good to get of that alien ship now came the hard part but he knew that the team with the help of the Asgard could defeat the enemy. Patrick blinked a few times as his eyes came into focus. “Good to get of that alien ship what did we miss?” Patrick asked as he looked around for a moment or two.
