The group of off worlders seemed confused by his words - as if the idea was "out of the question."
“Trail Lawyer?” a blond, younger looking one retorted, “Just what is our crime?”
Gav took a moment to study them, to see if they were serious. Surely, these people were aware of what happened after they left last? Could they really be that clueless that they led the enemy to their front door?!
Another woman - possibly younger then the one who had just spoken - threw a pebble at a fellow prisoner, in another cell.
“Lieutenant,” the blond woman said, looking at the pebble thrower, “we all are baffled and frustrated here, but please,” she pleaded with the woman, “this is not going to help.”
Clearing his throat to return the attention to him, Gaverand pieced together a reply shortly before replying.
"Your crime - in nontechnical terms - is basically you bringing death of many to our peaceful village. Before you arrived here, our problems were minimal...shortly after you left..." he motioned to the guy that had the pebble thrown at him, "Those brutes showed up and killed many men, women, and children..." the words almost stung in his mouth, but he continued anyway, "Old and young alike received their grotesque wrath." he crossed his arms, "And I'm the only thing standing between you and the other angry villagers from stoning you to death...basically."
"What is this about a trial??" a faint voice hummed from the ground, Gav instantly craning his head to see the man who didn't look well.
There was a chance that these people didn't mean to lead those horrid fellow prisoners to this village...there was a chance they were innocent - and that was the ideal Gaverand had to cling to.
"The trial is to deem if you bunch are guilty or not, for the previously mentioned charges. It is quite a serious case."
Part of Gav hated these people, for their previous appearance had resulted in the death of his family...the other part felt a pang of sorrow for them. It could've been just a coincidence...or they were liars who were playing stupid.
'This shall be interesting...' he thought, sighing to himself.
