This isn’t easy for me to write, but not for the reasons you may think.
In early November 2006—seven and a half years ago—Stargate Delta opened its door. We started with less than a dozen members but that didn’t last for long; the site quickly grew. At its peak we had eight teams (SD-1 through SD-8) in addition to base personnel, three cruisers (Icarus, Iliad and Aeneid), five cadet teams assigned to the Stargate Academy, and two teams serving with the Department of Homeworld Security. We’ve enjoyed three ten-episode seasons and two special event movies. We visited almost 100 planets in four galaxies (Milky Way, Delian, Pegasus and Ida Galaxies), travelled into the future, and even ascended to a higher plane of existence. It is quite simply impossible to name a favourite plot or mission, but I’m sure everyone has one.
In spite of that, the time has come to officially close the doors. For three quarters of a decade we’ve stepped through the Stargate to explore and experience the wonders of the universe. We had more episodes than Stargate Universe (which only had two seasons), and were active for more years than Stargate Atlantis (which only ran for five years).
The memories that we’ve made, however, will last forever.
I’ll be keeping the site open and active for a long as possible to allow former members and total strangers to enjoy everything that we built here. If ever you think about the site, pop by and enjoy a little trip down memory lane. I know I will. In the mean time, check out the sequels thread I’ve created which will direct you to Stargate roleplaying sites that members have set up to continue the legacy of Delta. I’ll try to keep it as up to date as possible.
So many people have played an important part in this site that it would be unfair to gives names. You should all know who you are. To the staff and moderators, thanks for working behind the scenes to keep the lights on after all these years. To the team leaders, thanks for keeping your team’s plots on course and challenging them to write to their upmost potential. And finally, and most importantly, the members. It doesn’t matter if you were with us from day one or for only a single episode, your contribution was just as important. Without every single one of you we could never have made it this far.
I can be contacted at commander.stargatedelta@gmail.com if you’d ever like to catch up, share a link to a new Stargate site or just want to reminisce about the good old days of Delta.
Remember: "Don’t be sad that it’s over, be happy that it happened."
Cheers, Jay
