Episode Twenty Three: Eighth Wonder

Captain Cromin waited for The Colonel to get back to him as he delibrated on what he was going to do about the situation at hand. Captain Cromin wondered on what the Colonel's decision was going to be. He could not imagine what was going on in his head and what he was faced with. The choice of possibly ending the crystalline civilization or at least that was what that choice seemed like. It wasn't yet confirmed if the crystals were telling the truth or if Ria was involved somehow all these questions were still out there unanswered and the other choice was deliberatly exposing the expedition to a possible threat. Captain Cromin thought about all these things and hoped that the Colonel remembered that the safety of the expedition was paramount and vital to the security of Earth.
Just then a call came over the radio, it was the Colonel "Captain, break out the explosives, plant the charges around the crystal formation." finally the captain thought, this can be dealt with once and for all. But just as he was getting the team with him together for the final mission another transmission came in. "Plant charges to help clear a path for the crystal to connect with our power grid." The Captain was shocked and quite suprised at the order. Tthe captain got back on the radio and replied to the Captain saying "Colonel that transmission was garbled please repeat the orders." The colonel repeated the order and then the Colonel repeated the order and finally the captain responded saying "Copy that Colonel . . . but I must recommend with all due respect sir as it is my job to do so that you remember that the safety of the expedition is paramount and vital to the security of Earth and that trumps everything else out here sir because that is the reason we are here. But I copy you loud and clear your orders is as good as done, Cromin out."
With that the Captain orgarnized his team and they went about the business of creating a much clearer path for the crystals to attach itself to the city. Cromin could see trouble coming as a result of this so he made it a personal mission to come up with ways to stop this crystal if it ever comes to that in case this becomes a problem in the future like he believes it will be although he hopes that it doesn't become. He communicated with the crystal explaining what was going to be done and hoped it understood. When the charges were set, Cromin cleared the immediate AO and yelled "Fire in the hole" and he flipped the switch on the remote detonator with him and when he pressed the button all they heard was boom and what they saw was a lot of smoke. When it finally cleared out there was a direct path to the city from beneath and with that Cromin got on the radio and said "Sir, it is all done."
