Episode Nineteen: Succession

Her heels clicked as Abi dragged her off away from the bridge to go to some girl things on the unsuspecting hacker. To the very day, no one had asked her what her fascination of wearing her shoes that made noise on hard surfaces was, and to be honest, she herself didn't know why she preferred to wear her hard shoes rather then normal shoes. They were black, leather and looked very wore, a fact that she'd worn them everyday for years evident. A shiny silver buckle decorated the front of them, which most people called her a leprechaun for. With normal shoes, she couldn't walk on her toes if she wanted to, not like she could these. Ever since she learnt to walk, Saoise was a toe walker. Toe walking was seen to be a sign of an athlete, she guessed being a dancer was good enough. And hey, with all the military personnel and their boots, she wasn't making the most noise.

"You take everyone on the right side of the room - I'll take left," Saoise nodded at what Abi told her to do. She eyed the two that where on the right, both guys. She went up to the first guy, "Um, hello, um, I just wanted to ask you if you were experiencing any difficulties with your personal computer due to what's been happening, I've been asked to ask other people about it." The guy just looked at her with a weird look on her face, "Huh? Saoise shook her head, her accent wasn't that bad, was it? She repeated the question again, but slower and more clearly this time. Clearly this wasn't the guy they were looking for. She looked over to were Abi was to see how she was doing. It looked like she had moved passed two out of three of the people that she had to talk to. She noticed Abi get up, only to sit back down again. Odds were that Abi had found the winner.

Forgetting the last guy that had a computer in the room, Saoise moved closer to where Abi and Mr. Mystery Hacker were sitting. Then with a sudden push of a button, the lights went out. This time it was not her fault, but that of Mr. MH. She couldn't do much in the dark, but soon enough the lights were brought back on.

Saoise had then firmly believed that she had just found the bestest friend anyone could ask for when she say Abi sitting on top of Mr. MH. Saoise felt herself smiling from ear to ear when Abi called her over as well as the others. As if waiting, the others did indeed come into the commissary to apprehend Mr. MH. Saoise made her way to Mr. MH's computer, where she found lots of numbers rolling around the screen, Matrix sytle. "Abi? How are your hacking skills. We have to get into this, and he's locked us out. We don't get control of the ship until we get control over this." She had some skills, but help was always welcome.

Outside the commissary, Alek waited patiently with Lieutenant Reynolds, as Abi and Saoise wandering into the crowded room to located the hacker. Working around the room one person at a time, they innocently questioned everyone who had a laptop in front of them, which turned out to be a few people. Although he could not see them, Kamarov listened into his ear piece, which picked up their active radios. All of a sudden the lights flickers on and off.

At that very moment, Reynolds rose to his feet and bolted into the room, his dart gun at the ready. Alek was close behind him, scanning the room from side to side as the lighting returned to the room. His heart started to beat faster for a moment as he could no longer see Miss Ely, but was soon relieved to hear her voice from across the room. He hurried to where she was, and saw her sitting on top of a man, a laptop on the table next to her. "Come meet my new friend!" she declared with obvious delight.

Her captive wrestled his way to his feet and made a run, but was intercepted by Reynolds before he could escape the room. "So this is over lets get him to the brig, we can question him later good right now lets just get this hacker problem sorted out but that's not my expertise anymore, that's up to the smart guys," Reynolds declared, just as security personnel arrived to lead their captive away for questioning.

Kamarov turned back to the hackers laptop which still laid on the table, it's programs all still active. Miss Brenna had a quick look over the small computer. "Abi? How are your hacking skills. We have to get into this, and he's locked us out. We don't get control of the ship until we get control over this," the declared after examining the machine. Uneducated in computer as much as the two women, Kamarov found a network cord plugged into the machine and began to follow it, crawling his way around the floor of the commissary, following the thin blue cable back to where the hacker had jacked in.

What was her job again? Today she was a computer specialist, Cryptologist, and now a spy. Yet…her major and technically her specialty was being a linguist – yet the Stargateish people seemed to not like to utilize that fact. She was hired for her Cryptology skills – which she found weird. What did they have against linguists anyway? Eh – who cares. It made her job more fun to have them throw a new facet into her arsenal every-other day. She certainly never got bored with it here. It was so excited…fresh…frightening. But mostly entertaining.

Making friends with random people was something she would normally do – so this ‘spy’ gig wasn’t as hard as one may have thought. Abi was just being Abi – talking to strangers and befriending them the best she could. If only she had her ukulele…

When hot-nerd suddenly went rogue and turned off the lights, Abi had a fraction of a moment of indecisions, before her ‘Cameron’ instincts kicked in. Growing up with a rather spazzy guy as a best friend, yielded odd results – like preparing you for moments like this. A similar stunt had been pulled when they were ten. Cameron had managed to rig the lights to turn off with a clap – which Abi wasn’t aware of. So he applauded her – than attacked her in the dark. The best action was just to go towards them and hope for the best. Even with her braced arm, Abi went for it – surprised when she felt herself sitting upon the bloke.

“Go me…” she mumbled, after calling everyone over. However – her light weight was not enough to hold the nerd down – causing her to fall off of him – backwards – before she wanted to. The original plan was to wait to see her boys, then jump off. Stupid hot nerd was too quick though. Pushing herself up, she saw Reynolds knock the hacker out, much to her relief. She gave all three of the ‘search party’ a wave.

“Well that was exciting,” she laughed, rubbing her back with her right hand, before she carefully pulled herself to her feet. This day was not fairing well on her body. Too munch injury and mental strain. Bleh.


''So this is over lets get him to the brig, we can question him later good right now lets just get this hacker problem sorted out but that's not my expertise anymore, that's up to the smart guys'' Reynolds stated, ''well this wasn't as hard as I anticipated, now we can tell the Colonel the good news that we got our ship back to ourselves'' then turned his attention to Abi, '' Nice work finding the guy, you all OK?”

“I’m not bleeding, am I?” she teased, having said that line once before, only to find out that she had bitten through her entire bottom lip. Forever from that point, she was reluctant to play silent Marco-Polo.

"Abi? How are your hacking skills. We have to get into this, and he's locked us out. We don't get control of the ship until we get control over this."
Abi walked over to where Saoise was, looking at the computer.
“No,” she simply stated, “I don’t swing that way, sorry,” she frowned, which roughly translated (from Abi-ese) to: ‘sorry – I don’t know that much about computers to do anything effective here’. But it was Abi, so saying that would just be silly.

Their resident Russian Ninja, however, seemed to be a step ahead of the civvie girls. He was already following the network cable, which was plugged into the laptop – sending Alek crawling on his hands and knees. The prospect was almost as amusing as when he ‘locked and loaded’ his weapon, before saying his epic line. Leaning her head to the side slightly, before following, not exactly mentally following what he was up to.
“<Will just unplugging it stop its hacking into the system?>” Abi asked, honestly unsure. He probably was too. Seriously – one of them needed to take the class “Computer Hacker 101.”

As the small group disembarked the bridge, Nolen came up to the Lieutenant Colonel. "Debt paid in full, Dundee," Mitchell began. "You can go with the little hunting party, but you get your ass back to the infirmary as soon as this is all over, you hear me? NOLEN!" The Squadron Leader was already heading down the hall as Mitchell yelled his name and then sighed.

Leaning against the command chair, he muttered to himself, "Landry's gonna kill me .... " Two minutes later, a crew member came up and gave him a report, to which Mitchell raised his eyebrows. "Well patch me through!" When the link was open, he said, "Commissary, Mitchell here. Quite the racket down there - someone wanna tell me what's going on?"

'' Lieutenant Reynolds here Sir we have everything under control the hacker is on his way to the brig and our people are just about to start working on decrypting his protection. Sir if may, I wanted to question him myself I have the skill set'' he really didn't lack the necessary skills to interrogate someone, when you are in special forces that's one of the first things you learn and the good thing was that what you can't do on earth you certainly can do here. ''i can't help in any other way but maybe if I break him we wont have to work to break through the protection in his computer'' Reynolds was eager to do something he didn't like to sit doing nothing while the others where working besides he was cramped on the ship for a long time without doing nothing. ''Sir I'm heading for the bridge right now I will brief you on the situation fully'' he looked at the others ''well I guess you don't need me here anymore I'm going to go to the bridge to brief the Colonel about our situation, anyone can give me an estimate on the hacker computer situation?

On all fours, Aleksandr crawled around the floor of the commissary, following the network cord the hacker had used to patch into the computer system. His efforts didn't go unnoticed. "<Will just unplugging it stop its hacking into the system?>" Miss Ely inquired. Just as she spoke, Kamarov found the end of the cable, which was spiced into a secondary control conduit that ran in the wall of the commissary. This was how the hacker had gained direct access to their computer system.

"<Yes, pulling the plug would cut out his hacking,"> Kamarov declared, making his way back toward the computer. "<But I was first trying to figure out how the hacker got into our computers.>" The hackers ability to locate and splice into such a minor backup sub-system concerned Kamarov; such skill and knowledge suggested the hacker was very familiar with the workings of the Earth-built battle cruiser, suggesting an inside job. The hacker knew his way around the ship well enough, and that worried the Russian.

Regardless, he didn't mention his concerns, not wanting to frightened his fellow crew members, and also unsure whom he could trust. Next to him, Lieutenant Reynolds informed Colonel Mitchell of the situation, and went to bring him up to date with their efforts. Alek gave the computer a quick look over; it was a stock standard SGC Toughbook, issued to all off-world and expeditionary personnel. While he was an engineer, his skill were more related to cogs and moving parts than computers. He stood back, giving Miss Brenna space to work.

“No, I don’t swing that way, sorry,” Abi said to her, Saoise smiled and shook her head. "No, I mean you could help me with the algorithms. Unless you're not the linguist who like puzzles that I thought you were." She shrugged and say down where the hacker had been sitting, flexing her fingers Saoise started to explore the program that was blocking her access. From her pocket, she got out a keyring set that had a few keys but mostly small flash drives, each one had a different purpose for different systems around the ship. Saoise popped in the one she used for when she could encounter a system she couldn't quite control.

"It looks like he's using a 2D Key passcode system, and even that is encrypted itself. I'm running an encryption program to see if it can generate something to give us a head start." she said out loud to the others, "There's no telling how long this will take,"

She worked away as Abi and Kamarov continued their own conversation. While she thought it was cool that they could do that, Saoise also felt a little put out. She looked up at the two of them, she didn't want to say this to them but it needed saying, "You do realized that I have no idea what you guys are talking about."

[Xavier "Doc" Laboy]

Jumper One

Xavier had been looking through the extra bins that were in the back of the Jumper. He was trying to see if there were any back up weapons or sidearms or something in one of the bins. They were almost to the station and Xavier didn't have much time, though he tried no to displace a lot of stuff he ended up taking too much time to search, he had enough time to search one more bin. And he got lucky, in this bin there were five Zat guns with holsters, not the best weapon for wounding someone, but they were stunner's if Xavier remembered right. Xavier grabbed three Zats, he was sure that only three of them were unarmed.

Outside Jumper One

Xavier stepped out of the Jumper, he had his Zat in it's holster, and held the other tow in his hands. "Hey Captain Blackwell and Armstrong, I got you some Zat guns...that is if you know how to use them..." Xavier didn't know if they had weapons training like he did so he wanted to make sure they didn't shoot each other. Xavier took out his Zat and opened it, it made a noise, he then closed it again and held it in his hand.

"Oh you think saving my life once counts as debt repaid. Mate your dreaming you old fool" he said with a chuckle as he checked his service pistol, opened the chamber to check that it had one in the chamber, and hoisted it again. Then as Mitchell began to talk again Nolen ran after the others heading towards the Commissary, "Yeah, Yeah what ever Shaft" he shouted back before disappearing.

Nolen stayed quiet and in the background as the two women and Alek captured the Hacker. He stood there incase they needed him. Then one of Leon's security team came down.

He replied to them trying his best for a motivational speech. Mitchell could do better. With that he walked to the Infirmary to both check on Des and get himself looked at. Jason was already there when he got there and a new member of the pilots.

Inside Alien Fleet

Quickly, the warrant officer integrated her small PDC with the mainframe of the ship’s computer. Her mind focused on integrated Tony’s program into the central database making it look as though the command was ordered through their own defenses. It took a few minutes to figure out the internal system, but with the help of Hansford and her computer knowledge, the program began to function properly. A time clock began with a box around it at the bottom of her screen. The time was set at 5:00 minutes and began the countdown. On her comlink, she reported her situation to Hansford.

”Program was successfully installed. We have 5 minutes before all hell breaks loose. Sir.”

The crew member's who had apprehended the hacker milled around the captured laptop, allowing computer expect that was Miss Brenna to work. She spoke of the level of encryption the hacker had protected his laptop with, but Kamarov was unaware of what the terms she used meant; he was more accustomed to fixing devices of a mechanical rather than electronic nature. Yes, he was versed in the computer systems of the Earth battle cruisers but only from hands on experience about the Korolev and the Icarus, both of which were now ironically destroyed. Why was it that every vessel he touched ended up a wreck floating in space?

"Oh Alek, man, you seam to surprise me every day with your skills," Squadron Leader Nolen declared. The Russian allowed himself a slightly embarrassed smile. Back in the motherland, officers rarely gave thanks to the enlisted men who carried them, and yet were always more than happy to accept responsibility for the actions of others. It was taking Alek a while to grow accustomed to the general sense of camaraderie shared by all on board this vessel, regardless of their rank or social position.

"Thank you Squadron Leader sir," Kamarov replied in his broken English. He was saved from further awkward conversation by a series of beeps emitted from the laptop Saoise was working on. "Are you in?" Alek asked, moving around the battle to look over her shoulder.

Abi had done her part in this insane asylum she called ‘work’. Well, it was far from ‘home,’ (both literally and figuratively), considering she never felt completely ‘relaxed’ around this floating metal box. Something about not real ground beneath you…well it was a bit eerie. Like she was in a constant state of free-fall with everyone around her. Now that thought caused the mind to bleed a little…though she doubted a Doctor would find that joke amusing. Pfft. Back to the ‘doing her part’ stuff, she had already accomplished quite a bit. Entertaining people on the bridge, giving Alek someone to talk to in Russian, tracking down the hacker, figuring out who the hacker was, and sitting on him in his pursuit to run away…well that just sounded like a full day’s work.

"<Yes, pulling the plug would cut out his hacking,"> the Russian Ninja replied, heading back to the computer, "<But I was first trying to figure out how the hacker got into our computers.>"
“<Oh…good thinking, Alek,>” she smiled, peering over Saoise’s shoulder after stalking Alek in his pursuit to follow the chord. It still looked like a jumbled mess to Abi, upon the cute-geek’s computer.

"No, I mean you could help me with the algorithms. Unless you're not the linguist who like puzzles that I thought you were." Saoise replied, after asking for Abi’s assistance.
“Oh, right,” Ely replied sheepishly, taking a closer look at the symbols upon the screen. It wasn’t a computer – she couldn’t just think of it like that. It was a puzzle. One massive…life risking, puzzle. That’s all. Heh.

Abi poked her tongue out through her lips, blowing some air out slightly, causing an unflattering pfft noise to escape her lips, as Alek inspected the notebook, without interrupting Saoise’s work.
“<See anything out of the ordinary about the computer?>” Abi asked, glancing up from the computer screen at Alek.

"You do realized that I have no idea what you guys are talking about." Saoise stated, causing the South African woman to glance over at the red-headed one with a sheepish grin, “Maybe that’s the point – wooooooo,” she made a ghostly noise, waving her arms around, “Maybe we’re telling each other secrets we don’t want you to knooowww,” the ghostly voice continued, “Or maybe that’s simply Alek’s native tongue and it is easier for his mind to process Russian rather than English, and it’s just one less thing to think about for him – therefore making his life easier, and I get to test my Russian skills. I promise if there’s anything important to report, I’ll say it in Irish Gaelic just to screw with the other people?” she half-asked, smirking, before she resettled her attention upon the computer.

Taking a quick glance around the room, Abi realized that the amount of people had grown – now to include several others, and Nolen. When she was glancing up, he was petting Alek’s ego. Boy’s were so cute when they interacted. It was fascinating really. She had actually written an entire paper on how boys interact with each other, rather than girls. Her psychology teacher thought the paper was hilarious…she got an A.


"Are you in?" he asked, causing Abi to realize she zoned. Whoops.
Getting lost in one’s own head was too easy for her…and not the best thing at the moment.
“Not really,” Abi admitted, watching the symbols upon the screen, “Saoise…I…ehh…” Abi hovered her hands above the keyboard for a moment, before giving it a go.

And nothing happened.
“Pfft…that would have been awesome if that worked,” Abi snorted, crossing her arms, “Go for it girl – you’ve got this,” she encouraged, patting Saoise upon the back to inspire her epic actions.

Tony looked around, the bodies of the aliens were scattered around them, he turned to everyone that had followed him, "Make sure that our exit is clear", he orders as he looks at one of the bodies, Your just plain old ugly, he thinks to himself, grabbing one by its vest and dragging it with him.

He listened as the station prepared to implode, its energy reactors began spooling up, he had to move fast. Dragging a body would make it worse.

Tony was just outside the hanger bay, everyone was in the Jumper, ready to head off, back to the ship they came from, hopefully the hacker was caught. An alarm sounded, Ahh Crap, he thought to himself, sliding the body under the closing door, at least it managed to slide into the Jumper. The large door closed infront of him, he reached for his earpiece, "Someone else pilot that damn Jumper and get the hell outta here!", he yells as he hears the Jumper engines spooling up.

Tony busily worked at the console, typing in lines of code to make sure everything would work, failsafes, he knew this was probably the last time he'd write a code, he reaches for the comms, "Odyssey, this is Hansford, the Jumper is making its way back, and the station is ready to go boom, the code has been input, so get ready to jump to hyperspace as soon as the station disappears, I've been trapped in the station, in an area where the beaming system is blocked, its all natural materials so there's nothing you can do, I'll make sure this place is history, Wish me luck!", he says as he awaits the Odysseys final instructions, ones he hoped wouldn't be his last.

Quite honestly, Samarra did her best to ignore Hansford...otherwise, the nasty little temper that she had worked for years to surpress might rear its ugly head. After silently counting to ten, she felt Hansford slow the craft until it came to a stop in the Hangar.

"Hey Captain Blackwell and Armstrong, I got you some Zat guns...that is if you know how to use them..." Samarra couldn't help but grin at her fellow Captain, and caught the zat as he tossed it to her.

"Thanks, Doc. See? I knew you would come in handy," she chided as she strapped the holster to her waist and began to scan the area, they were still hidden by the cloak. Taking one last glance at her team, she spoke.

"Okay, you guys. This is it. Hansford, Armstrong, you know what you can do. Laboy and I will cover you. We'll see if we can find the French prisioners on our way out, but if we don't have time..." There was a brief pause, and she recollected herself. "None the less, EVERYONE gets back on this Jumper. Understood? Let's Go!"

Corridor


They made their way down the corridors at a quick pace. Apparently, Hansford and Armstrong knew where they were going as directed by the tablet in Armstrong's hands. Glancing to Xavier every now and then, they made there way down the halls. Suddenly, gunfire came out from a connecting corridor.

"HOSTILES!" Samarra shouted as the Zat's fired away. They were held off while the two chiefs began their work in the control room. A beam from the enemy's energy weapon nearly missed her face as she jumped out of the way.

"Mind picking up the pace, Chiefs?" she roared to the two behind her. She heard Armstrong's reply about their short amount of time. As soon as she declared that, the rush of enemy aliens stopped. Glancing to Laboy, she nodded, "Are you okay?"

"Alright, we don't have much time. Hustle to the Jumper people!" With that, they set off down the corridor at breakneck speed.

Hangar Bay

They reached the bay and Samarra stood at the cloaked Jumper, ushering the others onboard. Armstrong, Laboy....where's the Chief?

"Hansford, what the hell!" she shouted at him. She was doing a lot of shouting today. He was dragging a corpse of the strange alien species...barely. "Put that thing DOWN! We don't have time for that." Half-frustrated, half-disgusted, she made her way to the cockpit where Armstrong and Laboy waited. Checking the systems and starting the engines so that they would be ready when the Chief got back on, she heard the door shut on the rear of the Jumper. Looking back, she was shocked to see the dead thing on the floor...and no Hansford.

"That son of a....!"

"Someone else pilot that damn Jumper and get the hell outta here!" he radioed in. Samarra's face began to grow a bright red and a snarl escaped her lips as she heard the transmission he sent to the Odyssey. Suddenly, the Jumper began moving without her control. The auto-pilot had been activated. He was a smart one...the smartest idiot she ever knew. She could not access the Jumper's systems to turn off the auto-pilot and get him back.

"Sam! Can you fix this??" Samarra asked, her voice cracking. She would not leave a fellow soldier behind. This cannot be happening...

Turning on the Jumper's comm, she connected to the Odyssey bridge, facing Col. Mitchell on the screen. Distress radiated from her face as she spoke quickly to her CO. "The Jumper has been programmed to return to the Odyssey and Chief Armstrong is trying to get past the system. Hansford is still on the station and it's ready to blow in minutes. Sir, we can't just leave him, but...we can't get back there in time."

<Tag Mitchell, Bridge>

There seemed to be no hope in this situation. The Jumper was on its way back, very much against Samarra's will. One of her men had been left on the station. Someone had been left behind. This was her worst nightmare, and it seemed all she could do was watch as the station grew smaller and the Odyssey came closer into view. Each minute that passed seemed like a lifetime...

<Tag Hansford, Armstrong, Laboy, Mitchell, Bridge, ANYONE!!!!>

((OOC: I'm sorry if I kinda commandeered anything there. This thread needs some serious help. My best guess is that either Armstrong can turn us around and we save Hansford...orr...Hansford magically finds some other space vessel and escapes. "What do you mean 'our systems are fine'?" Mitchell inquired of the bridge crew. "Sir, we've got access to all systems back," Lieutenant Hery said. "It looks like the hacker was giving our computers false readings, over-writing the diagnostics to make it appear things were inoperable. Our shield is the only major system affected ... we've got beaming systems back fully and weapons available, but plasma weapons are still offline." Cameron started, "Great! Means we can get the hell out of here when needed ... "

Just then, a message came from the away team, and Mitchell listened closely. Frowning, he replied, "Copy that Captain. Rendezvous back in the hangar and stand by." This news complicated matters. Turning to the sensor operator, he said, "Begin a deep scan of the asteroid. I want a detailed report of all human signatures, as well as alien. Track them and map them ... I'm on my way to the hangar."

With the Jumper touching down, Mitchell approached it and watched the ramp lower. As the team piled out, he addressed Samarra and the able-bodied team members, "I need the best layout you can give me for the complex within the asteroid. Our long-range sensors are online and we're mapping it out based on movements in the ship, but your first-hand intelligence will make it much easier."
