0100 Zulu - 22 hours until expedition embarkation
Stargate Command
Cheyenne Mountain Complex
The convoy of dark government SUV's pulled into the main gate of the Cheyenne Mountain Complex, known to most of the world as the home of NORAD, but to a very select few as Stargate Command. The driver in the lead vehicle flashed an ID at the gate guard and they cars were allowed to advance to the interior of the compound.
Once inside the mountain, the convoy made their way to the first security checkpoint. The passengers exited the vehicles, were x-rayed and scanned, and admitted entrance once proper ID's had been presented. The group was lead to an elevator and began and long descend into the complex. The lift stopped at Level 11 - this lift went no further - and again they were required to submit their ID's at another checkpoint. After again being the cleared they crossed the hallway to a different lift system that would carry them deeper into the mountain.
Upon reaching Level 27, the party exited the lift system for the final time and made their way towards the briefing room. Marine Core Major General Frank Kepler lead the party, which soon seated themselves around the briefing room table. Moments later another Air Force officer entered the room, and Frank and his party rose and saluted.
"As you were." said Major General Hank Landry as he took a seat at the head of the table. Frank watched him survey to group, and finally lay eyes on him. "Frank" he said as he raised from his chair and circled the table towards him. "It's been too long, how have you been?" Frank stood up and met Landry half way with a film hand shake. "Good as always Hank, even better now we've got the green light for the mission."
Landry returned to his seat and smiled. "I though as much." He turned his attention to the remained of the seated crowd. "Just to bring the rest of you up to speed, Doctor Lee has been examing the ZPM interface build by Doctor McKay to power the gate to Atlantis a year ago, and managed to devise a system to store some of it's energy. Not enough to power the chair weapon for any suitable amount of time, but enough to make a short intergalactic dial. As we speak, the ZPM is en route to Atlantis on board the Daedalus to help defend the city. Although the defence of Atlantis is a pressing concern for us at the moment, the Delta expedition will still go ahead as planned. Any question?"
There was a silence around the table. "I'll take that as a no, final prep meeting is at 0800 tomorrow. Dismissed."
