Ventrilo Client Setup Instructions
Prior to downloading the software, ensure you have a microphone connected to your computer (headset, desktop microphone, built into monitor, built into laptop, etc.) After this, you must first download the program.
1. Go to the Ventrilo download page and select the correct CLIENT to download based on your operating system (Windows XP, Windows 98, Mac OS X, Linux, etc.).
2. A new page will load, which you don’t have to read. Scroll to the bottom and click on ‘I Agree’.
3. A popup window appear asking whether you would like to run the program from its current location or save it to your computer. You can save it, but you only need to run it.
4. The program will download once you make a selection. When it is completed, click ‘Run’ or a smiliar command on your screen.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the program. Remember where it was installed to so you don’t have trouble finding it later!
Next, we need to set up the server settings.
1. Open the Ventrilo program
2. Locate the section titled ‘User Name’. Click the ‘->’ button next to the drop-down box.
3. A new window will open. Click the button that says ‘New’.
4. Another window will open. Type next to where it says ‘Name’ your Character Name as provided earlier. NOTE: This does not include a nickname and the first and last name MUST begin with a capital letter. When this is typed, click ‘OK’.
5. The ‘Setup User’ screen will come back up. Click ‘OK’ again.
6. Locate the section titled ‘Server’. Click the ‘->’ button next to the drop-down box.
7. A new window will open. Click the button that says ‘New’.
8. Another window will open. Type next to where it says ‘Name’ whatever you want to call it (I would recommend Stargate Delta). When this is typed, click ‘OK’.
9. The ‘Connection Editor’ screen will come back up. Fill in the following information:
Hostname or IP: ventrilo10.va.powervs.com
Port: 5093
Password: Fill this in with the password provided to you earlier
10. Make sure all the boxes on the screen are check-marked and then click ‘OK’.
Now, we turn to the window settings. Click the little icon that looks like two gears connected together. If you mouse over it, it should display ‘Setup’.
1. Ensure the box next to ‘Use Push To Talk Hotkey (PTT Mode)’ is check-marked.
2. Look down further for the box entitled ‘Hotkey’. The key displayed on there is what you will press when you want to talk to other people (default is Left Shift or Left Ctrl typically).
3. Up top, click the tab titled ‘Events’.
4. On the right-hand side, click the button that says ‘All TTS’. When this is done, click ‘OK’.
At this point, your Ventrilo client should be set up! To connect, click the green ‘plug’ (mousing over it will display ‘Connect / Disconnect’.
If you have trouble with any of the above, let me know … enjoy!
