Pooja stepped out of the airport, the moment she did, feeling of being home again - after a long time - warmed her. The urge of coming back to India which had over the course of time dimmed into an ache every now and then, vanished. The peace her heart had carved settled in. Breathing in the air, that smelled of home hit her brain, smiling to herself, she looked around the crowded parking lot to see if she could spot her bother. The rush and yelling and honking of cars, vans and taxi’s alike didn’t seem to faze her. The sound of home seem delight her to no end. Leaving again would be tough. Just a mere thought of it pierced her heart. But for now she would enjoy her time and cross the bridge when the time came.
The evening air was cool and sharp. She wrapped her shawl closer for warmth against the chilling air. Darting her eyes again, scanning the crowd she scowled when she didn’t see her brother. What the hell was keeping him? It was either he failed to find a parking spot or he hadn’t left home yet for the airport. Urgh, men, she thought as her anger rose, each in own way were unreliable. Sighing she rubbed her temple, knowing her anger wasn’t really directed at her brother, but more towards a certain Commander she knew. The man had nearly blown up at her after they all had gotten to Iliad. Pooja still never seemed to figure out just what was wrong with him? She growled when his face flashed before her.
“Someone’s cranky,” a male voice commenting in Hindi as he looked amused, his brown eyes sparkling at the sight of her.
Pooja looked up and narrowed her eyes, at the man, “You would be too, if you had been waiting too long,” she snapped at him only to find a grin spreading across his face.
“Really?” he asked, “Well that’s too bad. I was hoping to introduce you to your soon to be sister-in-law,” his voice was carelessly full of mock air.
“Oh really?” she questioned him pointedly, “then why didn't you bring her?” she got her feet and send him a challenged look, “If I’m going to meet her, why didn’t she come?”
A bark of laughter out him blended into the noise around them; as he pulled her into a hug and held on, “I was going too, but-” he cut off when she pinched him hard on the arm, “Where the car?” she demanded now eager to get home, arm in arm she allowed him to lead her, “Seriously Raj,” she began, “I would be the first to know if you ever got engaged,” she gave a snort, “Which means you haven’t yet.”
Her brother gave a her long look, as if he was hurt by her remark, “You think I, Raj Rai, would lie?”
She smiled easily as the boot of the car opened and she placed in her suit case, “Of course.”
He leaned over, “Just wait till tomorrow,” he warned, before getting into the driver’s seat and bringing the engine to life, leaving his baby sister gasping at him looked an idiot.
Oh, I'll get you, she warned.
